This session was perhaps one of our most unique, as it was the only one dedicated to vacuum technology at the Fluid Power Conference & Expo. Presenter Bill Huffman from Schmalz (sponsored also by Price Engineering) provided an overview of vacuum gripping technology for automated systems, robotic end-effectors for part handling, palletizing and depalletizing systems.
Bill introduced the topic by describing how ambient air presses suction pads to the object they are holding, and detailed the variety of styles available, such as suction pads, suction plates, flat face, flat face with double sealing lip, bellows type, and more. In addition, Bill depicted several applications where such technology can be used. He finished his presentation with some interesting videos that showed vacuum gripping technology at work in industrial plants. Senior Associate Editor Hydraulics & Pneumatics |
