Joe Scopelite from FASTER Inc. presented the "Connecting Under Pressure" session in Milwaukee.

Joe spoke regarding the complexities of connecting couplings nowadays as opposed to, say, 20 years ago. Years ago, the poppet style couplings helped relieve pressure...however, this method doesn't fit today's need for a cleaner method.

He showed many slides about the different couplings available today from the standard variety (used in agr & indust applic.), to flat-faced ones (used in constr. applic.), Micro-poppet (most common in agric.), ones with Built-in Drains to help with the containment of fluid being relieved and Screw Together Couplings (for use in high press. applic.). Also shown (and demonstrated at the FASTER Inc. booth) was their multi-coupling device that allows for connecting in situations where residual pressue and full working pressure connections are needed (although not while the system is active).

Do you have any connecting under pressure questions or situations you can share? Do you have problems connecting under pressure?

Following his presentation, Joe took a moment to review the topic he just spoke upon...video is available here: http://www.fluidpowerexpo.com/session-details.asp?id=44
