Hello all. I've spend the last few days lurking around, reading the various posts. You've got a nice, friendly, informative message board here.
I have a question for you pneumatic cylinder manufacturers out there about your pricing algorithms. My father was founder/owner of a small fluid power company. Sadly, he died suddenly last month. And, well, I now find myself in the position of running the shop. Unfortunately, I've yet to stumble upon his price list or even figure out how exactly he calculated prices. Specifically, I'm looking to price cylinders, ie, single and double acting, single/double port, per stroke, various mounts, with or without wipers, so on. Any help tossed my way would be greatly appreciated as I'm very green to this. Happy new year to all. |

Don't be shy Mr. G. You are in trouble unless you discover the pricing formula. If you are lucy you find it,if you are smart create it based on the following variants. In a cylider all parts are identical apart of Cylinder Diameter,Rod Diameter and Stroke. If you get lost, then from "very green" you might change to "very red" and loss a lot. Nahum |

Shalom Nahum, thanks for the speedy reply. Alas, I'm most certainly in trouble, and not just because of the price list issue. Dad died rather suddenly, so me and him were both totally unprepared for me to take over things (and no, no luck on finding the price list). Anyways, yes, I figure the most important variables to price right would be bore sizes and stroke. Probably, it's a goofy question to ask, but I was hoping to get a ballpark figure per such variables on, say, a single-port pneumatic cylinder with 3 stages (1.5" bore at first stage), 40" stroke, 6" stop, on a front mount. Your best chance to get some idea of the way your father priced the cylinders is to look at old invoices and start putting together some info in relation to Bore, Stroke, Mounting Style and options.
Don't hold your breath waiting for a cylinder manufacturer to come to your rescue. It's unlikely that one even post's or freqeunts this forum. You could check with someone at www.nfpa.com (National Fluid Power Association) to see if they could be of help. Possibly your father was even a member of that organization. Hi Bud. Yup, been doing that in regards to going thru old orders. Loaded with other work though...not enough hours in the day, as they say. I did kinda think it was a shot in the dark asking that question here, though. Thanks for the pointer about NFPA, will check it out.
