Hi
when we weld coupling or any connectin on the head of cylinder rod.it is possible to damage seals because of extreme heat.
What is a method of welding

Thread the cylinder rod and the coupling and eliminate all the problems associated with welding heat.

You may gain some new problems owever.

You should disassemble the cylinder and remove the piston and gland before welding to avoid ruining the seals on small cylinders. Larger ones you can extend the rod full length and monitor the heat so you do not overheat the gland end of cylinder. do not ground the welder through the cylinder only the coupling or retainer you are installing. a good coating of anti spatter close to the weld and a cover of some kind over the exposed rod will help. On new cylinders they use the heavy cardboard tube that the chrome shaft comes in.
