I trying to determine if the Hydraulic pump on my Ditch Witch SK500 is manufactured by Ditch Witch or by a third party. I need to have it rebuilt, and would like to get a model number off it and an estimate first before pulling it out of the machine.

Any thoughts on where I can locate the model number for this pump or who makes it?

Thanks

Kevin

To the best of my knowledge, Ditch Witch has not made their own pump, I've seen Ditch Witch drills with Sauer Danfoss (Sundstrand). Can you post a picture of it, the drawings in the user manual would have me guessing at Vickers TA series or Sundstrand 15 series.
There are three pumps there, Right track, left track and implement pump.

Hi Doug,

Just checking back. Any idea on who manufactures this pump? I would like to get it rebuilt but don't know where to start.

Thanks

Sorry Kevin, I thought I replied but I see that I didn't. Your pictures only show the rear gear pumps. I can't see the front drive pumps. I think they're Sundsrand (Sauer Danfoss). The whole pump assembly was probably Sundstrand at one time, and the gear pumps have been changed out.
If your wanting to get them rebuilt, the place to start is tagging your hoses, and pulling your pumps out.
Take it into a hydraulic shop that advertises doing pump and motor repairs, but be sure to ask them if they have a lapping table and test bench. If they don't, then they're not seriously into repairing pumps.
It would be a waste of time to test your gear pumps after rebuilding, but it would be nice to run up your drive pumps.
The main thing is if they're not serious enough to invest in the equipment required, find another shop.

Doug,

Thank you very much, that is helpful, and it is good to know the right questions to ask when I go looking for a shop to rebuild this.

My local DW dealer is very limited in their capabilities, they have told me they do not repair pumps, but only replace them. I suspect most of their business is on the larger DW equipment and not the mini loaders. The service manager told me he has only ever worked on one SK500 in their shop.

At any rate you have pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Kevin

If the worst case is to replace the pump and you cannot get the right model, it is better for you to understand the flow rate needed for your system and find the same double pump size from other store and convert it. Conversion takes guts also... check the shaft and mounting patterns. piping is easy to do and the least to worry. Adapters on the spigot(neck) has to be fabricated or even shaft adapters. The best way is to choose a new pump that has lesser mounting modification to couple to the drive... A lot of these pumps follow standard mounting and shaft configuration, most of them for the reason that they can replace other brands pumps.
