Hello,
I am updating this post from December 2005.
Does anyone have any real world comparison data with HVOF applied thermal sprayed coatings as a hard chrome alternative on hydraulic cylinder rods?

Dear Chris,
We do not have HVOF coated hydraulic cylinder rods comparison data, but others for very similar items. Certainly we have lots of experiances in use of tungsten carbide or chrome carbide coating by HVOF and approved this measures as an excellent replacement to the hard chrome plating.

Please review our attachments.
If you need any further information please contact us at your earliest convenience.

Best Regards,

Hi Chris,
The best alternative coating instead of
hard Crome Plating is Nitriding .

Dear Chris,
I can not share the opinion of Nahum, because nitriding is a vapor deposition process fur surface hardening only and not a superior coating like you can reach with HVOF. It is entirely different and definately not the best solution, as he mentioned. Attached please find an research report "Replacement of Hardchrome plating using HVOF" for your review.
