Hi, I am trying to set up a loader with a joystick style valve and I would like to have a third valve controlled with a switch on the main lever. I have mostly been looking at the products sold by Northern Tool & Equip. The valve that is closest to what I want is the Brand Hyd. single lever loader valve with forth position float and forth position regeneration. Is there a better valve out there for the primary controls? Is it possible to get a handle for this valve that would have a switch to control a solenoid valve for the third circuit? I know it would be easier to just buy a single spool valve for the third circuit and use that but it would be handier to have the control on the single joystick. I need to able to control a grapple and occasionally a hyd motor with the third spool. The tractor has a 17 gpm gear pump with a 2500 psi relief valve. Thanks

Joysticks are mostly proportional, and can accomodate some on/off switches or additional potentiometers. Are you going to operate two actuators at the same time?

I remember that ships luffing and slewing wiches can be operated by just one joystick...(two potentiometers). The brake solenoids are also activated at the same time(on/off). Those were hagglunds, and not sure if they make their own joysticks.

Check with vickers, rexroth, parker and other leading brands(quite expenssive though).

Since you have a smaller flow, I am assuming that your system valving is not (hydraulic)pilot operated.

I am sure that the valve you are looking for is available, but not very common. Some industrial machineries(as far as I can remember...) use it... just imagine a pressure gauge having electrical contacts...

Hi, what I had in mind was a 4 way, 3 position solenoid valve. That valve would have two solenoids on it. Is that what you mean by two actuators or do you mean two separate valves?

No, there are no pilot operated valves. The factory valving on the tractor is full manual. I want to add a separate set of valves for the loader.

I checked the brands that you suggested and all I could find are joysticks to operate a full solenoid operated system. The Brand Hyd loader valve that I am looking at will have a manual joytick on it that I want to attach an auxillary switch to operate the third spool.

If it is too much trouble I may have to use another manual spool for the third circuit.

Thanks for any help and suggestions. I am just starting to learn a little about hydraulics so bear with me.

Thanks again, Pete.

Could I get some more suggestions or help please? I mostly need supplier or brand suggestions. I've spent many hours on the net looking for what I need but I can't seem to come up with it.

Thanks! Peter

Sir:

A Sauer-Danfoss PVG 32 series valve can be set up as you envision (minus the regen, which I'll bet is a misstatement anyway). They can be built with solenoids and handles on the same valve section. We stock the parts and typically build and ship valve assemblies the same day they are ordered.

The PVG valves are very versatile and rugged, but they are not inexpensive. Even a single spool valve will cost a great deal more than anything Northern Tool might sell.

As for the joystick, we don't stock many but we have access to sources who do. Or I can give you names of some companies you can contact.

Akkamaan, thanks for the link, that seems like a pretty good forum.

Thanks for the info Bill. I don't think I misstated anything in reference to the regeneration. I think it would be very usefull on my loader. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll check out the S-D site and see if they have what I need.
