i have a garden tractor which i built a front end loader on.i blew my last pump and aquired this casappa for free..well ive contacted the company but they dont seem to wanna reply..i was tring to get the specs for the pump..i have mounted it on the tractor and it works but it seems to draw all power away from the engine its a 14hp kohler cast iron engine. i know its made in italy the casappa pump and i know it came off a round bailing machine wrapper..but i cant figure out why its drawing so much power my engine pully i beleave is 8 inch and the pully i have on pump itself is a 3 inch pully..is the pully set up wrong should i have a bigger pulley on the pump..it has me stumped..any ideas greatly appreciated sending picks of the unit also..ill take any suggestions thank you steve

Can you find a Part Number on the pump? That would allow someone to find the Cubic Inches per Revolution of the pump and then determinr the GPM output at any RPM. From that a pulley arrangement can be setup to match Flow to the available HP.

Without a Part Number the only way to determine pump flow is to take it apart and measure the Diameter and Thickness of the Gears and use a formula to determine flow.

Otherwise play with different pulley diameters that reduce the pump RPM until the engine quits stalling under a hydraulic load.

As a SWAG, I would say you are running the pump about 4 times faster than required.

The numbers should be stamped in the gear housing and will be something like plp20.22-----
The only problem with using this pump with a pully is there is no side load bearing in the pump, so any side load added to the shaft will not have any support by the pump in which many cases the pump will not take. If there is no number on the unit i could figure the displacement with the overall length from the mounting flange to the end of the rear cover, all i would need for this is the dimention of the mounting pilot and the length.

With that part number you can gp to the Casappa web site and download a .pdf catalog of aluminum pumps and then deermine what you have.
