I have a double acting hydraulic cylinder on a log splitter. When dead heading the cylinder at midstroke, it appears that the cylinder piston seals are corrupt and losing pressure. For some reason when the ram is deadheaded at the far end of the stroke, the seals will then hold pressure. Anyone know why the seals hold pressure at the end of the stroke but not at any other position?
Thanks

Hi, the cylinder may be "ballooned" in the center and not on the end of stroke?

If so it is not visible. Could it be ballooned enough to have this effect but it not be visible to the naked eye?

Hi, Yes it is possible and it will not be visible to the naked eye. You will need a bore mike or take the cylinder to a competent rebuild shop. They have seen it before many times,Im sure. Hope this helps- Brett
