Help!! I have been given a New Holland 785L skidsteer loader. The main hyd pump had a broken input shaft. After replacing the pump and checking the screens, oil levels, etc the new pump snapped the shaft after approx one minute of running. The only contamination I could find was some aluminum slivers from the pump housing and a gel like substance on the intake screen which I cannot identify or dissolve. Can anyone identify this goop and/or recommend a solution?

With the information supplied it is impossible to give any real answers to your questions.

If it was my machine I would at least flush the whole system with new clean oil by operating each component independently. This can only be done by using an auxiliary Hydraulic Power unit and attaching its pressure line to each separated circuit and running clean oil through it and into a holding container. Won't be cheap or easy but the alternative is to completely disassemble the circuit for flushing. That opens more fittings that can leak if not torqued correctly at reassembly.

Your Gel could be water contaminated oil, but I'm not up on hydraulic oils. I usually get an oil supplier involved when working on a contaminated system.

You will also have to disassemble all the valves in the circut and make sure all the moving parts can move. If you are not familiar with hydraulic components getting them back together as designed could be a problem.

At best you have a real problem and if not handled correctly you may have a lot of very expensive parts to replace.

Is there a Tech School or College in your area that has a Fluid Power instructor? Sometime this is a great place to get some assistance. It also can be a help to them by having hands on instruction for their students.
